USF鈥檚 Council of Academic Advising Supports Advisors Through Collaboration, Connection, and Care

 

At the 国产短视频 (USF), academic advisors play a vital role in student success, guiding students through course selection, degree planning, and helping them stay on track toward graduation. Supporting this work is the Council of Academic Advising (CAA), a university-wide committee dedicated to fostering collaboration, promoting professional development, and enhancing the advising experience across all three campuses.

Made up of representatives from every college and university leadership, the CAA serves as a central hub for communication and resource sharing. The council meets regularly to discuss policies, share the best practices, and ensure consistency in advising across departments. Their work not only streamlines advising processes but also strengthens the professional community of advisors at USF.

Last month, the CAA hosted its annual All Advisors Day, a special event designed to support the well-being and professional growth of the university鈥檚 academic advisors. Held on the Tampa campus, the event welcomed more than 100 advisors from across the university for a day of reflection, connection, and learning.

This year鈥檚 event included a range of wellness activities such as mindfulness sessions, yoga, and journaling workshops, along with breakout sessions on topics like effective communication, navigating student concerns, and leadership development. The theme emphasized self-care and creating a sustainable work environment for a happy and healthy self, which directly influences the support they provide to students.

The guest speaker and breakout sessions provided great takeaways on how I can continue growing in advising. I also got the chance to connect and share ideas with fellow advisors and celebrate our successes,鈥� said Alana Perry, academic transfer success advisor in the 国产短视频Office of Transfer Success.
